The Blue Jazz bow tie, "Fresh, young, loud and stylish".
Roberson is a fashion collection brand which represents today’s evolving and distinguished fashion. We sat down with Mr. Roberson himself to hear about the inspiration behind the brand. These distinguished bow ties no less extraordinary than the story behind them seems to be.
Blog: How did you get into bow ties in the first place?
Robert: I used to wear ties all the time and eventually found them rather monotonous. As I was searching for alternative accessories, I was introduced to bow ties and didn’t like them at all. They were small in size and presence, it felt like you had to get close up to see them. They were also mostly clip-ons, which didn’t seem fitting to me - people should know how to tie their ties. Unlike other such moments in life when you feel like you can’t find what you’re looking for, I decided to design a bow tie which I could take pride in and feel comfortable in wearing. It took me a long time to find the best silks, colors and patterns, and I had to go through quite a few seamstresses until I found one who really got me and what I was looking for. It’s been a long road, but in a sense, life really began once I stepped out of my comfort zone.
Blog: So these bow ties are fairly bigger and flashier than most bow ties?
Robert: Yes, I wanted to express my fashion differently, and stand out from the norm. When I tried on those smaller bow ties I felt like they weren’t fulfilling their purpose of representing stature and style. I believe that fashion should be very expressive and nonconventional, and I think that each of our bow ties reflects that in its own special way.
Blog: What’s special about bow ties?
Robert: I believe a good bow tie can make a whole outfit stand out and give its wearer the ability to express a lot by using it. As for our bow ties, I think they are unique, creative and trendy. They are unique because they are a relatively small accessory that leaves a big impression. Our Bow ties are double sided, and so they inspire creativity with the different ways in which you can tie them, and they are trendy because all four corners are interesting in and of themselves. I also found it important that our bow ties require manual tying – no clip-ons. It’s a way of respecting the craft, and that respect rubs off on the wearer.
Blog: On what occasions should one wear a bow tie?
Robert: The beauty of fashion nowadays is that you can wear a bow tie for any occasion, really. What’s special about our bow ties is that you can wear one side to a wedding, and then flip it around and wear it to work the next day.
Blog: What does it feel like to see your designs worn by someone else?
Robert: It’s an overwhelming experience. When I see someone wearing my designs I feel humbled that I am able to cater my passion to them, and help them express themselves. It makes me feel like I’m caring and providing for them. Maybe that’s why it feels somewhat close to my experience of fatherhood.
Blog: How does the featured Bow tie, Blue Jazz, express your vision?
Robert: It’s unconventional and really stands out, it has bold colors which give it a very powerful look. It’s fresh, young, loud and stylish, truly our signature bow tie, and one of my personal favorites.
Blog: What is the Roberson Collection in a nutshell?
Robert: A bold product with bold results.
